Süßer die Glocken nie klingen - Traditional

Süßer die Glocken nie klingen is a popular German Christmas tune. The melody is probably taken from a folk tune that, according to different sources, either originated in Thuringia or Silesia, which is now in the Czech Republic. The lyrics were written by the theologian and pedagogue Friedrich Wilhelm Kritzinger (1816 - 1890).

Here it is arranged for trombone Duet by Eberhard Michaely.  The theme is presented in 4/4 time, which appears to be a rather unusual measure to be chosen for this Christmas Carol.  The latin groove is to be played rather "laid back" throughout the entire piece.  The variations of the theme alternate between the two voices so that the lead voice and the accompaniment merge into one another.
